Music From East Africa

Founded in 2021 as an independent music label for traditional styles and fusions, Music From East Africa has since released various records from Kenya’s musical heritage, such as Taarab or Mwazele, with many more records in production. Going beyond regular label work, we scout musicians in remote areas and bring the studio to their homes, support the artists in administrative tasks, promote contractual literacy and assist them in making a living from music.

Thanks to this commitment to strong ties with the artists, the project has grown into a hub that brings together musicians, producers, instrument builders and DJs, all of whom have their very own relationship with East African music. From this richness, we want to continue connecting artists and audiences in diverse settings and produce more recordings from East Africa’s wondrous musical sphere.
