About Reynier García Reyes
Reynier García Reyes studied music at elementary level at the Alejandro García Caturla School from 1994 to 1997, specializing in Latin American Percussion. He received his training in sound design at the Museo de la Música de La Habana, Cuba, in 1998. He also obtained in 2003 a certificate in Folkloric Music (AfroCuban) from the National Folkloric Center of Cuba.
Over the past 25 years as a musician, Reynier has had the opportunity to work with and listen closely to numerous musicians who have left their mark on him. Among them are: X Alfonso, Samuel Formel, Roberto Carcasses, Descemer Bueno, Grupo Interactivo, Kelvis Ochoa, Habana Abierta, José luis Quintana (Changuito), Yadam Gonzales, T ata Guines, Adel González and the folkloric group of the University of Havana among others. From 1996 to 2005, he was a founding member of the musical group Free Hole Negro. Together we gave 275 concerts throughout Cuba and Europe. We also recorded two CDs. Free Hole Negro also released a music video and did many televised concerts and radio shows.
He has also participated in numerous music festivals both in Canada and abroad. These include but are not limited to: Ottawa Jazz Festival, Rumba Festival in Cuba, Salsa Festival in Cuba, Reggae Festival in Cuba and Festival Nuits d’afrique.
In 2012, Reynier was a finalist in the percussion category of the competition À fond la caisse of the television program Belle et Bum, Télé-Québec.
He is currently working with Miguel de Armas on a Latin music project in Canada.
