About Robert Sawyer
Robert Sawyer’s illustrious career kicked off after receiving a phone call from Kenny Aronoff, the legendary drummer for the Stones, Madonna, CCR, and more. He said he liked a song he did called White Dresses and wanted to play on it. The video that supported it received over 1.1 million views and was one of the first few AI videos. Directed by Hunter Culberson, the video was groundbreaking in its use of AI imagery overlayed onto real B roll. It launched a whole genre we call flip-flop rock.
Fast forward 3 years and 29 songs later this fun upbeat but real rock and roll finds a tempo among the everyday. Robert conducts a 124 voice live choir in Susquehanna, skateboards down a steep San Francisco street in Hold Me Down, Lets loose a rip-roaring guitar solo and flip-flop rock inspiring dance step on Show Me; prompting critics to coin the phrase and launch a revolution. This is how it’s done, they say. Sleeping in his car during a hurricane for the video to I’m on Fire during the winter was brutal, but the point was made.
Robert Sawyer’s contribution to issues such as homelessness, inclusion, and every day issues are often subjects of his writing. His songs are like onions, with many layers. The chords are always adding a diminished 4th note. An open 5th. Layers of D chords on top of A’s for a pedal effect. Then he’ll add an F#minor scale. Classic Rock. Unique. Self-supporting. Old school with a touch of 60’s flair. This is Rock fusion. His instrumental Monarch was listed as one of the top songs on Spotify with its flitting, flighty, dancing chords and floating, yet slow-burning lead structure.
